Overview: The OHSU Hospital Expansion Project represents a major investment in Oregon’s healthcare infrastructure. By expanding inpatient capacity, modernizing care environments, and improving operational efficiency, the project positions OHSU to meet growing regional demand and deliver high-acuity care for decades to come.
Oregon Health & Science University’s Hospital Expansion Project is a transformative, multi-phase development designed to increase access to advanced care across the region. Located on OHSU’s Marquam Hill campus, the project addresses critical capacity constraints while enhancing the patient experience through modern, flexible healthcare environments.
At the center of the expansion is the Vista Pavilion, a new 14-story inpatient tower totaling approximately 530,000 square feet. The facility introduces 128 new inpatient beds dedicated primarily to cancer care and complex surgical services, with additional shell space to support future growth.
The pavilion is strategically integrated into the existing campus via three skybridges, improving circulation for patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining continuity of care across departments. The project also includes upgrades to emergency services, new operating rooms, and expanded specialty care units for brain and heart services, significantly increasing overall hospital capacity.
Designed to respond to both immediate and long-term healthcare needs, the building emphasizes healing-centered design. Natural light, regional materials, and views of the surrounding landscape contribute to a restorative environment for patients and caregivers. The facility also incorporates sustainable strategies and is designed to meet LEED standards.
